The story begins in March 1989 with Fr. Charlie and parish council in a meeting talking about the lack of storage space. The existing three-car garage was becoming too cramped with festival supplies, gardening tools, and more. It was originally built behind the church into the hillside, overtaking the old cistern. Council began discussing construction options, keeping in mind that one day the church itself might be undergoing construction.
Imagine a following meeting in March 1990, when they show up and hear the following news: Forget the shed. We’re ready to build a new church!
The Future Planning Committee had told parish council it was necessary for St. John’s to expand. Now with the Archdiocese’s approval the focus of the next meetings would quickly change from building a new shed to building our future.
The storage shed was eventually built after the completion of the church and was dedicated to Fr. Charlie. The plaque mounted on the front reads:
Fr. Charlie’s Shed
THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
We will long remember your vision
Pastor 1983 – 1998
